What actually changes the number on your quote?
Four things, mostly. The first is what you already have: a house with sound ductwork can usually take a central system, and the expensive part of that job is already sitting in the walls. Without ducts, you are into a ductless system, where the cost tracks the number of indoor heads.
The second is how many rooms you want to control separately. Every additional zone adds an indoor head and a run of refrigerant line, so a three-zone system is a meaningfully bigger job than a single-zone one even when the houses look alike from the street.
