What do you do with gas furnaces?

Three things. We install a new gas furnace in a home that hasn't got one. We replace the furnace that's worn out or has quit on you. And we service and repair the furnace you've already got, so you're not buying new before you have to. If yours is making a noise it didn't make last winter, call us and we'll come and listen to it.

Is a furnace or a heat pump right for your house?

We install both. A furnace only heats your house. A heat pump is one system that does your heating and your cooling, so it's your air conditioner as well. If your ducts are in good shape and you've got gas at the house, a new furnace is a straight swap. If you want the house cooler in the summer too, a heat pump is usually the better spend. We walk your house, look at the ducts and the electrical panel, and tell you which one we'd put in.

What happens to the old furnace?

We take it out and haul it away. That's included in the price. The packaging off the new unit goes with us too. If there's something you want kept, tell the crew before we start and we'll leave it where it is.

What permits does the work need?

A heat pump install needs an electrical permit through Technical Safety BC, and a licensed electrical contractor files it. Taking a gas furnace out needs a gas permit and a gas contractor. We arrange the permits and the inspections as part of the job, so you're not chasing paperwork.

Can you put in a heat pump instead?

You can, and we'll quote you both. The rebate money only comes when you switch to a heat pump. A new gas furnace on its own doesn't get you any. We help you apply for CleanBC and BC Hydro rebates worth up to $13,000 on a heat pump installation, and what you get depends on your household income and the fuel you're replacing. The CleanBC Energy Savings Program is income-qualified and covers switching from gas, propane or oil. We keep the current amounts in our rebate guide. How does the job run?

   Written quote — we send you the price in writing, with what's included, so you can read it and ask us about it before you decide.

   Install day — we pull the old furnace out, set the new one in, and take the old unit away with us.

   Start-up and walkthrough — we fire it up, check it's running the way it should, and show you how to work the thermostat.
