CleanBC & BC Hydro Heat Pump Rebates
We help you apply for CleanBC and BC Hydro rebates worth up to $13,000 on a heat pump installation, and what you get depends on your household income and the fuel you're replacing.
Updated August 2026
We check where your household falls against the program income tiers before you commit, so the rebate you are expecting is the one you qualify for. We file the paperwork and deduct the rebate from your final invoice.
A heat pump rebate is money a utility or government program pays you back after the install, covering part of what it cost you to switch to a high-efficiency system.
Rebate-eligible work must be done by a registered contractor as part of heat pump installation.
Which rebate program applies to you?
The CleanBC Energy Savings Program is income-qualified and covers switching from gas, propane or oil. The BC Better Homes Renovation Rebate has no income test at all, but only covers switching from electric baseboards — it's co-delivered by BC Hydro and FortisBC.

Is there a local rebate on top of the provincial ones?
There is, but only outside Parksville and Qualicum Beach. The Regional District of Nanaimo pays $2,000 for switching off oil, propane or natural gas to a heat pump, and only electoral-area addresses can claim it — Nanoose Bay, Coombs, Errington and French Creek all qualify, while the City of Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Lantzville and the City of Nanaimo don't. It stacks on top of your provincial money. The conditions are tighter than CleanBC's: we have to remove the old fossil-fuel system completely rather than leave it as a backup, and you can't claim if you're simply replacing equipment that has already failed. The job also needs an electrical permit, and the work has to go to a contractor on the CleanBC Better Homes register — we're on it, and we pull the permit. Applications run 1 January to 14 December. Tell us your address when we quote and we'll confirm exactly what you can claim.
Can I get a rebate for replacing an existing heat pump?
No — all three programs specifically exclude replacing an existing heat pump or adding a head to one. If your system needs replacing, we can still install it — it just won't qualify for CleanBC or BC Hydro funding.
Can I apply for the rebate myself?
No — every program requires a registered contractor to submit the application and itemize the rebate on the invoice. We handle that on your behalf as part of the install.
How is the equipment itself qualified?
It has to be on the BC Qualified Heat Pump Product List and AHRI certified, with a minimum efficiency of SEER 16 or SEER2 15.2 — we only install equipment that qualifies.
How does the rebate actually reach you?
- 1
Eligibility check — at your free in-home assessment we confirm your existing heating system, which program applies, and whether you income-qualify.
- 2
Quote and system selection — we give you a flat-rate written quote for a heat pump on the BC Qualified Heat Pump Product List.
- 3
Installation by a registered contractor — we're program-registered, and we pull the permits as part of the job.
- 4
Paperwork and payout — we itemize the rebate on your invoice and submit it well inside the six-month window.
